HR Diagnostic

Do small to mid-size businesses need HR?  Without professional HR support and counsel, organizations often make costly mistakes in areas of compliance, hiring and operational processes.  Although HR is not a revenue generating function, the right type and right amount of HR can deliver a significant return on investment.

The TMS HR Diagnostic is a simple tool for business owners and senior executives to assess your current situation, providing a snapshot of opportunities, threats and high impact needs.  Below is a list of 12 key questions taken from the 40 question diagnostic tool.  Any no or not sure answers to these questions provide a focus for effective decision making to be applied on high value and high risk areas. 

  1. Can your business quickly respond to changing strategic needs? 

  2. Do you have the ability to attract top talent?

  3. Do your employees have an intense desire to be a member of the organization, despite opportunities to work elsewhere? 

  4. Is the organization compliant with current employment laws and regulations?

  5. Do you understand what employment laws and regulations apply to your size business?

  6. Do you have an employee handbook and/or policy and procedures manual?  Have these processes and policies been professionally reviewed in the past 2 years? 

  7. Are your managers and employees fully engaged in the business?  Are you maximizing employee productivity?

  8. Does the organization invest the time and money in professional development? 

  9. Do your managers have the appropriate tools and resources available to hire, engage, and coach employees effectively? 

  10. What is your company’s capacity to perform?  Are you over or under capacity?  What is it costing you? 

  11. Would your managers and employees rate your HR support services and resources as effective? 

  12. Does the company seem to spend an inordinate amount of time and money on payroll and benefits related activities and services?
